Customer requirements: We provided this customer with a quotation for the front, back and side of a 2-story terrace property in Brighton for painting and decoration works. We quoted £1800.00, and this price included a 6 week hire period.
Difficulties and challenges we encountered: The front of the building was a simple scaffold; however, there was no space between this property or the neighbouring property to erect a platform at the side for access to the chimneys at the top. So we were required to erect a beam section from the rear of the building to provide safe access to this area.
Work we undertook:
Front: Our team erected a framework 6.0 metres high with 3 scaffolding lifts that was approximately 21ft long. We were required to build this structure around the bay windows. There were 2 working platforms, both 5 scaffold boards wide with safety guardrails for fall protection in place. The top lift was erected at the base of the 2nd-floor window, allowing our customer to safely reach all aspects of the window and surrounding walls.
Side: This was a little more complex as the only way of accessing this area was from the back of the property. Because of this, our scaffolders were required to use scaffolding beams which extended off the rear scaffold to provide safe access to both chimneys. Our scaffolders erected a 12.0-metre beam section roughly 7.0 metres high from the ground. This platform was fully boarded out with double handrails and toeboards. We also installed a ladder from the scaffolding at the rear up to this side section.
Back: This was a slightly smaller structure which measured approximately 4.0 metres long by 7.0 metres high and had two working lifts that were fully boarded with safety fall protection installed. We were also required to erect a 2.4m by 2.4m return that was 6.0 metres in height with a 4.0-metre beam section so that the side beam elevation could be connected to and supported by this structure.
Hire term: This scaffolding was rented out to our customer for 6 weeks for their painting works to be fully completed.
