Scaffolding for decorating with a beamed walkway on the rear elevation of a 3-storey house in Kemptown

Scaffold type: Painting and decorators scaffolding platforms.

Area: Upper Rock Gardens, Kemptown, Brighton, BN2.

Customer requirements: We were contacted to provide a price for a scaffold to the rear of a property in Kemptown so they could paint and decorate the entire back area. We priced this job with 4 weeks of hire included.

Difficulties and challenges: We were required to erect an additional scaffolding for us to be able to obtain access to the rear. It was completed by erecting an 8-metre beam section on 2 parapet walls. This was 3 boards wide, approximately 4 metres from the wall. It was dismantled when the primary scaffold was erected, and we then reinstalled it when we returned to take the main structure down.

Work we undertook: Once we had created an access walkway into the back garden over the wall and our equipment was safely passed over, our scaffolders got to work and began building this structure.  

  • The first lift measured approx. 4.0m and was 2.1m deep; this platform was 8 boards wide.
  • The second lift was roughly the same size as the lower platform. This lift was 4.5 metres high from the ground.
  • The 3rd lift measured approximately 2.4 metres long and was placed 2.2 metres above the 2nd lift. It was 1.5 metres deep which gave a working area that was 6 boards wide.
  • The top lift was 5 metres long and was once again erected approx. 2.2 metres above the 3rd lift. Half of this framework was placed on a flat roof, with this access platform also 1.5m deep and 6 timber boards wide.

Other information:

  • All working platforms were double-hand railed and had toe boards around the edge.
  • Full fixed ladder access was provided throughout the scaffolding.
  • 2x 8.1m beams were used for the walkway over the wall.

 

Hire term: Our customer needed this structure for up to 4 weeks to complete their painting and decoration works in sufficient time.
