Scaffold type: Scaffolding for decorating works including repointing and rendering.
Area: Richmond Road, Brighton, East Sussex, BN2.
Customer requirements: This client needed a scaffold to the rear of this semi-detached property for repairs and decoration works, however there were a few access issues so our price for this type of scaffold was more expensive than usual due to the manner in which we had to get our materials into the back garden area. So, we charged this customer £1000 to supply, erect and dismantle this scaffold with 4 weeks hire included.
Difficulties and challenges we encountered: There was no access to the rear of this property from the garden, down the side or even through the house, so we were required to take our equipment up and over the 2-storey extension on the side of the building from the front and then drop it over the other side. The ground to the rear of this property was also uneven in some places so we had to level that out before placing our sole boards and base plates.
Work we undertook: Once we safely got our equipment over the extension into the back of the property, our scaffolders got straight to work creating the first scaffold lift at the basement level of the building, so that the decorators could work on that section of the wall as there was a large gap from the basement floor up to the grass level in the garden that you can see in the picture above. We then installed two more working platforms that again spanned across the whole rear of the house which was approximately 12 metres in length, and this allowed our customer to safely perform repairs, rendering and then painting works. The top lift was installed just under the windows on the top floor which gave the user enough height to be able to access the wall up to gutter level. As standard with all of our scaffolding structures, access was provided via a ladder which was installed internally on the 2nd lift so that the decorators could access the 3rd lift. Two safety guardrails and toe boards were added to each lift for safety and each working platform was five scaffold boards wide.
Hire term: The back wall on this property required a lot of work as it was in quite a bad way, so repointing was carried out on some sections of this wall, then rendering and finally painting works took place. The full 4 weeks hire was used as per our quotation to ensure that the rendering and repointing had set properly.
